As part of my stitch wheel project I thought I’d share my stitch progress here, partly for my own reference but as an easy way back to find out how to do the stitches. Today I’m sharing the Split Back Stitch and Whip Stitch.

I’ve used back stitch loads before and to add in the split part adds a neater stronger line stitch. I quite like the effect!

The whip stitch does at it sounds and whips or wraps thread around the top of your stitch. It makes your lines stand out.

This is my complete stitch wheel frame. I’ve whip stitched all the circles. The inner two are with two strands of DMC thread. The next two are with three strands of DMC thread. Finally the outer circle is whipped with 6 strands and a slightly darker brown.

The Stitch wheel project is a free You Tube series from Cathy Reavy from Threads Workshops. You can find the video for the Split Back And Whip Stitch here.

So there’s another new start from me and I’m looking forward to getting some new threads tomorrow to have a go at some new stitches in the wheel!!
