There is one tradition around our Christmas dinner table that gets on my nerves and that is the Christmas Cracker. It’s so wasteful, not only does the packaging gets chucked the contents are normally rubbish and gets wasted too, last year I made reusable Christmas Crackers this year I’m adding English Paper Pieced Crowns.
Have you ever wanted to make Christmas that little bit more special and that little bit less wasteful? Well this is me every year. I try and make presents, wrap them with recycled paper, reuse items or re-gift. Now we have to combat the cracker issue!!
Introducing the English Papers Pieced Crowns
After making crackers last year and getting great feedback about them I decided to go one step further and abolish the paper crown for a reusable crown. A fan of English paper piecing I decided this technique would make something really unique.
What is English Paper Piecing though? It’s a sewing technique of using paper templates, wrapping fabric and sewing the bits together to create a patchwork effect.
Traditionally used for making quilts and cushions I believe that it can be used in a variety of circumstances, this time for making crowns! Beautiful English Paper Pieced Crowns that can make a unique gift!
There is are currently 3 different designs to suit a confident beginner. Full instructions and printable templates available on here
There is so much scope to make really pretty crowns. I have had a lot of fun designing them and making a variety of different styles.
English Paper Pieced Crowns not just for Christmas
Inititially this pattern design was to help reduce Christmas waste from Christmas cracker crowns but as time has gone on the English Paper Pieced Crowns are excellent for dressing up too.
My littlest has claimed most of the crowns that I have made so far to go in her dressing up box! She can now be seen in a crown and makes the cutest princess!
