Wouldn’t it be great if you could get 30 extra minutes in your day by doing one simple thing… Gaining that time to be able to focus on something else, your craft, your creativity. It would be exciting wouldn’t it? Well 30 Extra Minutes might not actually be possible!

I could play with these Liberty Scraps!

If you have been following along on the blog you will have seen a list of 8 ways to make more creative time. Number one on that list is…

Get up 30 minutes earlier

WOW – What an ask. When I wrote that one in, I thought it a little tongue in cheek. I wouldn’t consider it as an option for myself, why should anyone else?

Why I don’t get up 30 Extra Minutes Early

I feel like I already do!! Simple. I have the 2 little people in my life now that do the job of alarm clock for me.

I am forced out of bed early so the thought of having to get up even earlier just makes me shudder!

Even if I did get up then I would have to perform the impressive task of sneaking past the kids bedroom, missing the squeaky floorboard outside their room, to then make it into my creative space to only realise that in my sleep deprived state my creative space is actually in my bedroom.

The whole adventure would just mean a very unproductive and sleepy all day long!

The other end of the day is when I like to spend my time, normally because the said small people are asleep, Mr Tiny goes off bed early, so I get alone time. It’s fabulous. So no I am not getting up any early in the pursuit of Creativity.

What did my followers think to 30 Extra Minutes?

With me point blank refusing to do number one on my list, I thought there must be people out there that are willing. I put the question out to my followers….

a poll

Do you think that proves my point? Nope won this question but what was interesting to me is that the YES Crew gave us the reasons why they do…

    • Creative time is also planning time. Keep a small notebook by bedside or in bathroom, add ideas, uncompleted projects to finish with workable timeline, etc
    • I always sew a few stitches before work, is a good start for the day and worth getting up a little earlier for 😊
    • I always got up early enough to have 30-40 minutes in my sewing room before work. It made me happy and I was able to accomplish quite a bit. Too tired to quilt after work usually..

It’s interesting to me. One of the main reasons that I try and factor in some creative time every day is that it makes me happy. Make me feel like I have achieved something that I wanted to do in the day. If that creative time was first thing in the morning. Would that set me up for a happy day ahead?

This YES Crew think so, a little bit of creative time before starting the day, giving and getting up that 30 extra minutes early just sets the day in right mood.

Will I try for this 30 Extra Minutes?

One day yes, I think I have it in me to try and get up earlier in the morning. Maybe when the kids become moody teenagers, I won’t dismiss it as my opportunity to stay in bed too!

The one thing is for sure is I think I’ll try sewing something in the morning. See if it makes the difference to my mood. This Focus Cutting Sewalong project might just be the tiny project that I n

Let me know what you think, 30 Extra Minutes?
