It’s that time of year again where I start Getting my Crown on. This year though I am making a set of very special crowns for some of my loved ones. I don’t normally share my makes before I gift them but this year I am breaking all my rules and hoping for the best.
The English Paper pieced Crown series of sewing patterns was my response to just some of the waste at Christmas time but over the last few years they have developed not just something for Christmas but something that can be worn at many celebrations. Even great for the kids dressing up box.
The Tiny Crowns… Getting my Crown on
I have 5 crowns to make this year and I have jumped in whole heartedly. As they are a family set I have picked out similar styles and colours of fabric for them. I hope I know my recipients well enough that they will love them.
Starting out with my favourite crowns pattern the Tiny Crown. Not because it’s designed for kids but because it’s smaller and had less pieces, so it is a perfect crown for a beginner to sew. I am gifting these two to some little people though so I have made the elastic on the back slightly tighter for their heads.
For both crowns I have used Freespirit fabrics… Here they both are:
The Blue Tiny Crown
This one I have picked out ice blue and white for the main body of the crown and accented it off with a blue and orange floral jewel. My inspiration for this one came from Elsa! If you have small people then you know who I mean!
I contemplated going with Christmas fabrics for a frozen style theme with snowflakes to boot but my decision to make something that could be worn all year won out.
The Green Tiny Crown
Well, the blue crown is heading to the older sibling with a bit of a theme of Frozen I felt that a green version for the younger sibling might be apt. This one have big green leaves as the main body of the crown with a central pink and blue floral jewel.
I love how you can play with fussy cutting with the jewels. The bottom jewel on this crown is stripes from the central jewel so I could have a play with direction.
This one fits the Ana vibe I was going for I think. On both crowns I have used them same pink dotty backing to to complement the little dashes of pink in their crowns.
