There is something about the Rainbow that makes people smile. Is it the fact that it’s so darn colourful, is it because it is a sign of hope that means the storm is over, a happy symbol of better times to come. I’ve done a lot of Rainbow Sewing over the years and I thought wouldn’t now be a great time to share with you A Collection of Rainbow Sewing Projects to feast on.

Let’s kick off with my recent Rainbow project that I’ve not shown on here yet.

The Embroidered Large Embroidery Pouch

This is one of those projects that has taken time to complete. I had the initial fun of creating the embroidered stitch wheel. I then raided my Alison Glass Scraps to extend to the wheel into a flat panel. Then I sat on the panel for a couple of years awaiting to turn it in to a bag!

I have always wanted to get better at embroidery and when I spotted a sewalong that Cathy Reavy had organised during 2020. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to give something a go, I really enjoyed learning some new stitches. The Colour wheel embroidery is a stitch wheel tutorial series by Cathy Reavy and you can stitch your own following her amazing series on YouTube.

Cathy walks you through 50 different embroidery stitches and are easy to follow and learn from. I am certainly a lot more confident stitching now.

I used all my Alison Glass Fabric scraps to extend my panel into a rainbow effect around the outside. It being an embroidered panel I decided that I wanted to turn it into a giant pouch that was big enough to hold my large embroidery frame and hoop and all my main embroidery supplies. Using an open wide pouch style I have now finished and started using the pouch.

The I Spy Hexie Quilt

I was unsure about including this Quilt in my collection of Rainbow Sewing Projects as it’s not strictly all Rainbow but I love this quilt and if I get to show it to you again that is always a bonus! The border of my Ispy Hexie Quilt is a rainbow anyway!

Each Hexagon is half inch wide and there are literally thousands of unique prints inside. It took me about 3 years to complete and is all completely hand stitched.

The Cross Stitch Rainbow Bonanza

The Rainbow Bonanza Cross stitch is so much fun. I got into cross stitch when I was young and I love the repetitive nature of sewing cross stitch. This is a very simple pattern and I love that each square is a different pattern.

This is now a free pattern in my members area. You can download the pattern, buy the supplies and stitch the gloom away.

The Staying Home Polaroid Quilt

Another 2020 project for me this one is the Staying Home Polaroid Quilt, which inspired The Tiny House Book. Each House has a Polaroid Photo on that has a fussy cut image on. Some of the images have got a fabric printed photos of my family on to.

A time that from when we had to stay home. This is also a free pattern in my members area.

The English Paper Pieced Fabric Crowns

Not strictly totally Rainbow too as you can use any colour fabric that you want but I made this scrap Rainbow version of a Bigger Crown. The English Paper Pieced Crowns are a response to the waste at Christmas that come from Christmas Crackers, there is a tutorial on making a cracker here. The Crowns are available as a downloadable sewing pattern over in my shop.

There are 3 different crowns and they use the patchwork technique of English Paper Piecing to make. You can have a lot of fun with them.

Rainbow Scrap Packs

One of my favourite things to do is to save all my fabric and when I get a lot of scraps built up I make scrap packs of my favourite fabrics. If you ever fancy sewing a rainbow yourself these are often available in my shop to buy and use yourself.

2.5″ scraps are my favourite to collect because they make a good size for Tiny projects. They fit a 1″ hexagon template and it just works!

I’ve really enjoyed looking back over some of my rainbow projects. Sewing a rainbow is one of my favourite things to do, I really hope that you have enjoyed seeing A Collection of Rainbow Sewing Projects too? What Rainbows have you sewn recently.
